Best codec for Screen capture content (benchmark) - MySchizoBuddy
Training videos of applications have become the norm. Instead of learning through book, we now learn by watching videos of how to do a particular task. Which is more intuitive and effective, we learn best by watching. However, to follow that path is riddled with codec hell that play only in particular players and technicality. It is a mess.
Here I will try to clear some of the problems. What to use? Where will it play and in What player will it play? What to use for which delivery method etc. Obviously I will also provide a benchmark for it, Some people love numbers.

Yeah, after looking into H.264 when it was first bundled into QT I really began to love it. I do still encode stuff to FLV for flash, because it allows for some extra security measures, and, because it easily plays on most computers. (Not on Linux/PPC or other OSs with lower saturation). The quality is definately lower, but, in that instance, I choose bandwidth and ease of use over long encodes and potential codec issues.
One other thing I would note, is that while H.264 is a great codec, I would use it for final output only, and would not try to record to it unless I wasn’t planning on doing any editing. Its system requirements are hefty, and it does add a lot of compression, so doing destructive editing can cause an increased level of degredation, the same as trying to work with WMVs will.
