Yeah I know what you are thinking… Yet another exciting topic from 2487.
Seems Mr. Scott has started quite a ruckus. And if you ask me it’s about time. The politicians have been taking turns hand feeding their special interest groups for too long. Time for some real action that actually helps out the little guy. In general there seems to be a lot more waste than usual. And if you have not heard yet I think Bush has officially cooked his own goose. I’m even starting to believe he doesn’t have a clue. I don’t get this Dubai port thing. How is this possibly a good idea? Dubai is technically an ally but in my opinion we are allied with their oil and they are allied with our money.

So, if the next Bond does suck as much as is expected, Pierce says he will retake the role.

The idea that members of a species living side by side can split into two species is controversial. Some scientists have presented evidence that the process has produced several species of plants and animals, but their ideas have met with intense skepticism.

Two new studies in the journal Nature — one on the kentia palm and a second on fish in a Nicaraguan lake — are impressing some leading skeptics, however.

Chip-making advances announced at the SPIE Microlithography Conference in San Jose, California, showed that Moore’s Law is alive and well. Moore’s Law dictates that chip densities double every 18 months, leading to smaller chips with double the processing power. But the Law has become doubtful lately as lithography and other chip-making processes butt up against the limits of physics. Naysayers say the chip industry has shrunk chips about as far as they can go.

But IBM, for example, said this week it will defy “conventional wisdom” and print circuits with 30-nanometer ridges, a third of the size of the 90-nm chips in production today, using current lithography imaging processes.

Its discovery, reported in today’s issue of the journal Science, showed for the first time that mammals diversified much earlier than was thought, even in an age dominated by dinosaurs.

The media has been all over the “new threats” to the Mac. Would we be hearing about these level 1 (to 0) attacks if they were attacks on the Windows platform? Of course not.

Leander Kahney of WIRED writes:

The smuggest of smug Mac users is right: the platform is more secure, and these new security threats are no more threatening that a paraplegic kitten.

The Leap-A malware was a poorly-programmed Trojan horse that relied on “social engineering,” or trickery to perform its nasty function. There’s a simple way to protect against this kind of threat — common sense — and in testament to this, a lot of people didn’t fall for it.

I’m not going to catch a virus this way any more than I’m going to send money to the honorable Dr. Mobuntu, head of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

When it comes to Leap-A, I’ll continue practicing the same common-sense precautions I take when using a Windows machine, like not opening any “nude pictures” of Britney Spears I get in e-mail.

Slashdot | Why Don’t You Sleep On It?

‘Sleeping on it’ best for complex decisions

The research suggests the conscious mind should be trusted only with simple decisions, such as selecting a brand of oven glove. Sleeping on a big decision, such as buying a car or house, is more likely to produce a result people remain happy with than consciously weighing up the pros and cons of the problem, the researchers say. Thinking hard about a complex decision that rests on multiple factors appears to bamboozle the conscious mind so that people only consider a subset of information, which they weight inappropriately, resulting in an unsatisfactory choice. In contrast, the unconscious mind appears able to ponder over all the information and produce a decision that most people remain satisfied with.”
