Girlfriend 6.0 vs. Wife 1.0

This is worth a read and a good chuckle, I shall leave it at that and let the readers decided whether or not to proceed. However as a man and a IT member I would not steer you wrong.

CNN.com - ‘Knight Rider’ coming to big screen - May 9, 2006

For those who may not know I am a big Knight Rider fan. It sounds like the project is back on track after losing their first production company.

Free calls to all landlines and mobile phones within the US and Canada - Skype Blogs

“Yes. It is really very, very free. There’s no prepayment, no minimum use, no subscription, no monthly fee, no nothing. You just download and install Skype and then you start calling. Both the caller and the number called must be in either the US or Canada. There are no strings attached.

The only condition is that we have said free SkypeOut within the US and Canada is guaranteed to last until the end of this year — that is, until December 31, 2006. We’re not quite sure yet what we will do after that. Maybe we extend the free period, maybe not. You’ll hear more about this towards the end of the year.

Until then, happy calling.”

So, I was sent a link to Google Trends, and well, had to run the Ninja vs Pirate filter through it. Apparently the Pirates are the more popular recently.

Quartz did it first, and Aero is supposed to do it for windows, well, Xgl is the Linux variant. Its the Xserver combined with Compix, a compositing engine, to provide OpenGL 3D Acceleration to the GUI. And, it looks slick. Aside from being in the development phases still, its available for the Suse platform right now. And, while its eyecandy, there are some cool things about it, like the ability for true transparency. I enjoy this, because its always been pseudo-transparency. Although, if you watch the spinning cube link, the ability to stop the cube, and have the movie playing around the corner is really cool. Useless, but cool. Suse claims that there are more things to it than just Eyecandy, and some of it makes sense, but, I don’t really see much of it as impacting my life to a huge degree.

Update: I just found this link, which is basically the same thing for Fedora. Unfortunately that reminded me of an issue which I glossed over on the Suse page. This requires the Mesa driver. I don’t remember what it is exactly about the Mesa driver, but I know that I hate it. It caused some sort of application instability issues for me last year, so I swore away from it. The secondary root of this is that most Video cards aren’t supported because of proprietary drivers, (Fedora at least, not sure about the Suse version).

I thought this was very interesting being a bit of a PlayStation junkie myself. The highlights: motion sensor built in to controller for interactive gaming-go ahead Mr O let us all know how Sony is ripping off Nintendo:)-and Bluetooth wireless with re-chargable battery (via USB). All of that and it’s still the same form factor and button layout that we all have come to know and love!

This is really geeky but thought some of the parallels were interesting. I especially liked the video of the rock song in Jabba’s palace in RotJ matched up with the Obi-Anakin-Dooku battle in RotS.

This is what I’ve been waiting for! A two-disc set of original and remastered versions of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It’s only available for a short time, so I better reserve a copy!

The headline is a little misleading as this is more about more species being added to the threatened list than the extinction list but there are some “big name” species being added.

Unless you have been living under a rock or too immersed in American Idol to bother watching the news there has been a huge debate stewing regarding immigration in this country. I’m curious what some of the JohnnyV readers feel about this complicated problem. (I’ll post my opinion if some of my fellow readers post comments.)

I was laughing so hard when I saw this about 20 minutes ago. So far I haven’t found a link to the video, but in time I am sure it will pop up.
Sort of makes me think, with the introduction of bootcamp, and now the straight up attack on Microsofts security, where is this all leading to?

Update: Mr.O found this link, http://homepage.mac.com/brianbobcat1/iMovieTheater15.html which is the first ad.

Update2:
Looks like I got those down just before their bandwidth fell out…
