If you ever wondered just how backwards of a government North Korea has just check out this picture.
There are some great quotes from Donald Rumsfeld in this article too.

That’s all fine and good, but places like Albania also have about 4hrs of working electricity per day. Shall we invade and save the people?
Let’s not let our leaders use whatever reason suits them best at any given time for getting involved in a particular nation, because it insults our intelligence, and it insults the human worth of the populations in other parts of the world that are in just as bad of a situation or worse than North Korea.
If we are invading because international agreements support that there is to be no more new states with nuclear weapons, lets just stick to that. Why Rumsfeld feels that is his favorite picture may have to do with the fact that he hasn’t taken similar pictures of the rest of the world.
I’m not suggesting we invade North Korea… I didn’t say that, our government isn’t saying that and I’m not exactly sure where that comment came from. There are a lot of places in the world that are in equally bad shape. The point Rumsfeld and I were trying to make is a lesson in priorities. If a government has the desire, resources and money it takes to develop a nuclear bomb before it invests in basic infrastructure for its citizens you really have to question their priorities and intentions.
The Korean peninsula is a striking example of the achievements of democracy, capitalism and a government’s value of human worth.
I certainly do not think we or anyone else would be justified to invade and effectively kill a million North Koreans who’s only fault is living under an oppressive and arguably insane leader. Outside, international pressure to adopt basic human rights and some form of democracy is the only thing that will save themselves from their own society.
Even then if they want to live the way they do in isolation it doesn’t bother me the slightest. That is until a lunatic with missiles and a nuclear bomb starts to threaten it’s neighbors who happen to also be our allies.
