Wow! That’s cool. I always thought fish had bad eyesight.
You know there seem to be a lot of myths out there about fish. My all time favorite is that they don’t feel pain (used as a justification to eat them). This is ludicrous to me. They have a nervous system similar to all of the rest of the vertebrate animals in the world. They feel “pain” just as much as any other vertebrate would.
Anyway, in regards to 2487′s comment, what surprises me is their ability to compensate for the refraction of light, being underwater and all. Obviously it’s not perfect as he actually took two shots at the fly before hitting it but it’s pretty amazing that their able to even get close.
One of many reasons I don’t eat them or other animals for that matter. There are a lot of myths about all sorts of creatures and so many things to learn from them. Thanks zoo boy for enlightening us!
Great video! Notice the archer fish jumped out of the water and grabbed the fly before it could hit the water.
