I'm sorry but there are some absolutely ludicrous statements in this interview with Bill Gates. Especially his comments on Mac OS X.The guy is delusional. I think he's had his head buried in the sand for too long…or maybe somewhere else…

  1. Funny, how prospective plays a role in how an interview is interrupted. I was laughing and nodding nearly the whole way through…
My favorite line: If you just want to say, “Steve Jobs invented the world, and then the rest of us came along,” that’s fine.
I’ve been very close to dropping $600 on a Mac Mini just to play around with OSX. But every time I get close to making the purchase I walk over 10 feet and there is a PC sitting there that is upgradable, twice as fast that has a lot more capabilities all for basically the same price! (I get a nice new mouse and keyboard too!) This was a few weeks ago when they were still running XP. Now that there are running Vista I can get all the same features of Mac OSX (just like all the articles have been saying) for the same price with twice the machine! Pretty much made that decision for me!

  2. Anyone who really knows me, knows that I am in no way a Mac fanatic. I am not someone who thinks they can do no wrong or someone who is going to run out and drop $500 on an iPhone just because it’s an Apple product. But I do recognize good development, good interface design and ease of use. You complain about that Mac mini not being upgradeable and say that you would just buy a Windows machine because Vista does all of that Mac stuff now anyway. But that’s exactly the point. You have to upgrade to run Vista at this point. Mac OS X has had three stable versions that didn’t require a single upgrade to run. And I think it is safe to assume that the 4th version (10.5) will not require any major upgrades as well. I, unlike you, actually use both systems everyday. Gates’s claims here are ridiculous. Mac exploits on a daily basis?! I’m still waiting for someone to take complete control of my machine. But apparently it happens all the time. He dares someone to find one once a month in Windows?! Are you kidding me?! And his claim that the original Mac interface copied Windows?! Ever hear of Xerox? The guy is so delusional that he thinks he invented the computing world. But you’re favorite line is the one mocking people who say Steve Jobs did that, so clearly there is no reasoning with you. And that $600 Mac mini is running a 1.66 GHz Core Duo processor, Dell’s closest match is a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo and it costs $849. You are not going to convince me that you can get a machine “twice as fast” as that Mac mini for the same price. Oh and the other thing that Mac mini would do for you…run both OSes on one machine. But you clearly don’t want to “just play around with OSX” because you keep making excuses not to. I’m sorry if it seems like I’m slamming you man but you’re post is kind of ignorant. And to you, this probably makes me a fanatic and that’s fine. Just remember, I’m on the front lines supporting both of these systems. My thoughts are based on actual experience not theory or conjecture.

  3. I was being sarcastic and also trying to illustrate my buying decision process. I was also simply trying to comment about how two different viewpoints yield very different opinions on the same topic. Sorry it went over your head and you felt the need to lash out.

  4. Dude, you know that I can be just as sarcastic as the next guy, it’s one of the reasons I have assimilated to this group as well as I have, but come on. What in your original comment gave me any indication that you were being sarcastic? All you do is bash Apple for the 10,000th time without any facts to back it up. And when someone calls you on it all you can come back with is “I was just kidding”?! And your point about different perspectives?…well I don’t get it. Were you honestly “laughing and nodding” when Gates dared people to find an exploit in Windows once per month? What perspective could possibly make that seem positive. Sorry man this isn’t Star Wars and you’re not Obi-Wan Kenobi, you don’t get to use the “certain point of view” argument. Facts are facts and there is no denying Microsoft’s security record. But I’m probably “lashing out” again so I will quit here. You will hear no more from me on the subject. In fact, you will never see me comment on anything you write again because clearly you’re intelligence and wit are “over my head”.
