Author ArchiveSorry ladies, "75 Things Every Man Should do before he dies." Count em up and post your number… I'm at 34 of the 75. Life is short, get busy! We are all suckers for lists! Shame on you Phil Gramm. You are only proving that you and your cronies are out of touch and unfit for any sort of leadership position in this country. Also in the news today: Oil breaks all time record of $147 a barrel Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are in danger of becoming insolvent Dems not doing much better: Obama supports the latest FISA bill basically authorizing the telecomm to spy on us with impunity. Don't tread on me! Our common enemy is quickly becoming our own corrupt government.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/05/28/beck.immigrantworkers/index.html After reading the article and thinking about the word play going on regarding this issue. Here are a few I've heard over the years: Illegal Immigrants; Undocumented Workers; Corporate Slaves. I wonder which is really the most accurate and which most accurately describes the situation. The one thing I am certain about is that the answer is more complex than "send them all back", "build a wall" or "amnesty for all." I was talking politics with a coworker a few days ago and said something that didn't really sink in until after I had said it. I was born in June of 1979, which means that for nearly my entire life minus just 6 months there has been a Bush or a Clinton in the White House. Kind of scares me to think our government is run by such a small group of people and essentially members and associates of two different families. I’m excited about the prospect of this not being the case this fall! There are essentially three styles of government: 1. Autocracy - Single self-appointed ruler. Our current system puts us right between an Oligarchy and a Democracy.
No one will be able to say I didn't call this one come November! http://johnnyvonline.com/2006/08/21/death-of-democratic-party/ he he… Whether or not you are a Packer's fan you will enjoy this article. At ten pages long it is one of the best stories on Favre I have ever read. From the article: "There is no happier place than Green Bay, Wis., on a Sunday evening after the Packers have won. The beer tastes better, the girls are even prettier, and few seem to notice the bite in the air. In a town defined by its team, civic temperament can be quantified on a scoreboard. A few weeks ago, in the moments after the Packers had defeated the Carolina Panthers 31-17 at Lambeau Field, the parking lot was alive with merriment. Kids in number 4 jerseys and GOT BRETT?…" http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/magazine/specials/sportsman/2007/12/03/sportsman.2007/ I will be in Green Bay this weekend to watch them play the Oakland Raiders. This story and honor only makes this amazing year that much better! And as always, GO PACK GO! If you are a Packers fan you will appreciate this. There is a young family that moved from Sydney, Australia just to follow the Packers around the country for a year. It's a great story and well worth a few minutes of checking out the site and especially the youtube videos. They will also be featured on tonight's edition of Inside the NFL on HBO. http://www.theonceinalifetimefan.com/ One more thing: GO PACK GO! Even I'll admit this is hilarious and clever advertising!
More and more lately I feel that the consumer has lost power with certain products and services. One area in particular is the cell phone industry. This particular rant is directed at the cell phone industry (or shall I say cartel). Every single carrier is structured to offer a 2 year contract with strikingly similar “calling plans,” and equally difficult to decipher terms. When you are treated unfairly and charged some ridiculous amount of money they simply rely on their contract to enforce their predatory sales techniques even if they contradict their marketing efforts. I have personally experienced this with a “National Calling Plan” that was only “national” if 50% of the minutes occurred within your home region. I received a $1,000 bill that month for roaming charges that were not a part of my “National Calling Plan.” That incident pretty much made the entire industry my new enemy. How many parents have had horror stories of kids ringing up several hundred dollar bills for over using text messaging! If you understand the technology at all you have to understand that any charges for text messages are almost entirely profit for the cartel as it barely costs anything to allow text messages across their networks. They put together these plans knowing that you will trip up so they can over charge you. The cell phone cartel does give you a “choice” regarding the contract. They do not require you to sign a contract. Instead you can pay full price for the phone and you can leave their service whenever you want. The catch is of course that you cannot use the phone you just bought with another carrier! Unless you unlock the phone which if you have ever tried to do can be an awfully painful process. Even if you manage to unlock the phone it might not be compatible with the network of your next carrier! It just amazes me that these carriers have gotten away with essentially price fixing the market and limiting consumer choice. Contracts are by definition “An agreement between two parties” so why doesn’t the consumer get a choice in the matter? Perhaps I’ll write my own contract and bring it to the carriers. If they want my business they should agree to my terms for a change! Seriously about all you can do is complain to the CTIA “The Wireless Industry Association”, your cell phone provider or write your congressional representatives who by the way are in the cartel’s back pocket. This is hilarious! Enjoy! I had a thought the past few days that sites like digg.com are making our "news" orientated site obsolete. So, I pose two questions to the group. #1 Am I nuts or do you agree? #2 What can we do to spruce things up or at least make the site more conducive to a world with an attention span of a squirrel? My apologizes, if I have offended any squirrel lovers, Zoo Boy. |
