Gotta hand it Steve Jobs.  He has done a fantastic "job" turning around Apple in the past decade.  This article provides a great summarization of how his vision has brought Apple from the brink of obscurity to its current status as a technology powerhouse.

Anyone on this site pick up an iPhone today?  I'd love to hear someone's first impressions of their latest hit…

A good friend of mine that goes by the handle of "Looshun" took up photography as a hobby a year or so ago.  He certainly has become one hell of a photographer and I invite all of you to check out of some his best work!  Enjoy!

Contain toxic levels of mercury…  So now what?  I was just thinking about converting several lights in my house to CFL to "do my part" and now I read this.

Time magazine article about how a governmental system has managed to stifle creativity and the entrepreneurial spirit. The article goes onto explain how the French are looking to pull themselves out of their rut.  If you have ever heard me rant about bureaucracy and well meaning but misguided government intervention before, this is why!

The real reason that I like this article is the feeling of pride and hope I get as our generation is beginning to take the reins of power and influence.  We have such an opportunity in the world to bring forth a new meaning of cooperation, innovation and opportunity.

It is somewhat long but it is a very good read!

That's right…  In less than an hour you will find yourself walking around smiling and humming "mana mana."

New tower nears approval after new design is unveiled.

Pictures and renderings.

Comparison of other buildings in Chicago.

Current World's Tallest.

Future world's tallest in Dubai… Burj Dubai. (The construction photos are amazing!)

Yes, I'm the resident architecture geek.

Warning!  Deep Geeks only!

You use it everyday and probably don't think much of it. So, here is a little story for you… I writing my last post from my MacBook and I stopped for a moment to figure out the key commands for Copy and Paste which I use all the time on my Windows notebook but have forgotten from my Mac days years ago.  Then in a moment of pure geekyness I wonder who came up with the concept and who came up with the short cut commands.  I Google "history of control v paste command" and find out everything I ever wanted to know about the topic.

There is even a full Wiki article on the topic!

Few things left:
1. DRM has to go away… completely.
2. Discounts for full album purchases. (This is probably already available)
3. Track and allow me to redownload music (essentially keep a backup of my online purchases)

I refuse to buy restrictive music from any online store and really don't like CDs.  I did buy a few recently (RHCP - Stadium Arcadia and Incubus - Light Grenades)  Both fantastic albums BTW, but the first thing I did with them is RIP them to get them on my iPod.  Just plain old MP3 files and completely DRM free so I can do whatever I want with them.  I don't even know where one of the CDs is anymore.

This coming from the maker of the Hummer H2 and Chevrolet Suburban. The "Big Three" have been playing this card for years.  20 years of getting their butts handed to them by the Japanese and they still haven't figured out how to make money building quality fuel efficient cars.  Their answer has been to produce bigger and bigger trucks all while fuel prices and have been increasing.  I love the line too about American’s demanding larger vehicles.  The only reason the American public has had a chance to demand larger vehicles is because companies like GM have been responsible for lobbying against CAFE increases for 20 years.

Anyone need some articles about “America’s Oil Addiction” or perhaps some statistics about the enormous amount of fuel we already consume in this country to cart around 110 pound soccer Moms in 5000 lbs SUVs? I'd like to see even more agressive standards that would drive innovation and investment in the industry and actually reduce our dependancy on oil.  Time to start thinking long term.

Sorry, GM… Time to sleep in the bed you helped to create.  If the Japanese can build better more fuel efficient cars and actually plan for fuel price increases perhaps you should get out of the car business all together.
